This is one of the first Garden Series paintings. I painted this in the fall when vegetation was darkening and the decaying hydrangeas on the far side of my yard were yielding some really interesting colors. You can also see allusion to my neighbor's fence that was being built and the pines and marsh that are behind it. This one is definitely more autobiographical than most of my work.
