Alouette, mixed media on canvas, 2018, 48" x 48" - Lighter and airier than the dense vegetation of some of the Garden Series pieces, this work plays with form and color in a much less literal way. Some of the collage elements are pieces of drawings by children passing by my studio during my time as a resident at OnePast7 in Suffolk, VA. The title, from the macabre French lullaby, is mean to capture playfulness of the colors and brush strokes, while alluding to the more serious nature of the stories behind some of the children's drawings.
