The Oyster is My World - A Collective Art Project

This work is conceived as a large scale mixed media piece that will be created from photos and drawings of oysters submitted by anyone who would like to participate. The goal of the piece is to promote conversation around local ecological preservation and restoration efforts and the interdependence of the coastal economy and ecosystems. The focus is on the Chesapeake Bay, particularly the Lynnhaven River area, which was historically known for producing some of the best-tasting oysters in the world, but whose populations were decimated to 1% of their original numbers. Restoring the oyster population has been an important part of efforts by organizations such as Lynnhaven River Now and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to clean and protect the Bay as a priceless natural resource.
