Lynnhaven - A Collective Art Project

This work was conceived as a mixed media piece to be created from photos and drawings of oysters submitted by anyone who wished to participate. The goal of the piece was to promote conversation around local ecological preservation and restoration efforts and the interdependence of the coastal economy and ecosystems. The focus was on the Chesapeake Bay, particularly the Lynnhaven River area, where oyster populations had been decimated to 1% of their original numbers. Restoring the oyster population has been an important part of efforts by organizations such as Lynnhaven River Now and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to clean and protect the Bay as a priceless natural resource.
